THIS TERRACE ON A PENTHOUSE IN SANT GERVASI WAS ADAPTED TO MAKE IT MORE PROTECTED AND DYNAMIC
The project began by seeking a solution that wouldn’t sacrifice the soft afternoon light and would allow for air circulation. Together with the client, we designed lattice panels with slat orientation and spacing adapted to the sun’s projection.
Much of the apartment overlooks its terrace. We decided to concentrate natural elements in the planters and two sets of pots. This strategic move created an uncluttered space, giving the plants a prominent role. The result is a showcase of evolving nature, with a more reflective ambiance in winter and versatility of use in spring and summer.
Striving for privacy without sacrificing light and air flow, we conducted a series of tests on-site. We chose to carry out the woodwork on-site to assemble and ensure a good anchorage, resulting in a perfectly fitted outcome.
When selecting plants, we chose native varieties renowned for their bird-attracting properties, aiming to cultivate a rustic ambiance that diverged from conventional artificial hedge aesthetics. Next to the lime tree, a sizable pot brimming with aromatic herbs further enriched the sensory experience, particularly for culinary purposes.
Our decorative accents embraced the idea of simplicity and contemporary elegance, with a preference for materials that gracefully weather over time, such as untreated wood, natural cement, and linen. We avoided cluttering the space with non-functional objects or bulky furniture.
“The terrace has come to life. A variety of sparrows visit us every day to eat the berries. Watching how the plants change with the seasons and the habits of the birds is a family entertainment that fills us with peace”.
