VERVEINE is a landscape architecture studio based in Barcelona and founded in 2015 by Lina Seguró Mendlewicz.

Specialised in landscape projects, both small and large scale, the studio works under a distinctive signature defined by sensitivity and technical innovation.

LINA SEGURÓ MENDLEWICZ

Lina Seguró Mendlewicz founded VERVEINE with the purpose and vision of creating a studio where the creative process could be complete—from conception to construction. A project capable of integrating nature into people’s way of life, enhancing the quality of living spaces, and weaving together interior and exterior architecture.

Founder and director of VERVEINE, Lina is a landscape architect trained at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB_UPC) and an Agricultural Engineer from the Barcelona School of Agriculture (ESAB_UPC). In parallel, she complemented her education at the École Nationale Supérieure de Paysage (ENSP_Versailles).

Her professional activity began in 1995, collaborating with various landscape studios such as Factors de Paisatge, led by Manuel Colominas. She later worked for several public institutions, including the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, the Diputació de Barcelona, INCASOL, and the municipalities of Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sant Boi de Llobregat. In 2002, she began her independent career, carrying out projects for both public and private spaces.

Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous national and international competitions, with projects and presence in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, London, Berlin, Frankfurt and New York.

As an educator, she has taught landscape architecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture ETSAB_UPC and at ELISAVA.

One of their projects, RLL41, is a landscape architecture intervention on the new rooftop of an office building in Barcelona, which was a finalist in the 2022 World Landscape Architecture Awards in the Built—Small Landscape Design category. It is a connector garden that is seamlessly integrated into the trophic network of birds in this region of the city. The garden was developed using an industrialized construction system that enabled a rapid, precise, and highly controlled installation. This project has emerged as a compelling illustration of how technical innovation can transform a secondary space into a contemporary landscape of high value, integrating sustainability, aesthetics, and functionality. Additionally, in a region with a high building density and few green spaces, it has emerged as a key ecological point.

“I respond to the need to create spaces with meaning and responsibility, to discover their possibilities and give them character. To do so, I seek the language and beauty of the place itself.” — Lina

With a vision that combines landscape architecture, agricultural engineering and furniture design, Lina can reveal the aesthetic beauty that coexists and dialogues between vegetal exuberance, architectural solidity and artisanal attention. Her approach creates places with identity, rooted in their cultural and natural context, guided by a belief in the inspiring power of landscape.

HOW WE WORK

We accompany and lead the project from the earliest ideas and conceptual definitions through to the commissioning of the new “VERVEINE space”, ensuring that each phase remains aligned with the initial coherence and intent.

In the studio, every project is developed holistically and through our own design and working methodology, which enables us to offer a comprehensive project‑and‑construction service, as well as targeted support or consultancy when the commission requires it.

Verveine Landscape Architecture
Phase 1 · First approach to the site to understand the space to be intervened

Every project begins with understanding the place—its natural and architectural conditions, as well as the intended programme—to establish the foundations of a coherent proposal between the space and its use. The goal is to define a beautiful and simple Preliminary Design / Basic Project, with a habitable perspective conceived to be lived.

Phase 2 · Design and technical definition

We develop the executive project as a tailor-made solution, defining the technical and construction aspects necessary to set the execution conditions and ensure the correct materialisation of the project.

Phase 3 · Construction

We carry out the construction with great attention to detail, assembling and coordinating a team adapted to the needs of each project. Everything is organised to optimise the work and ensure that the execution of the construction is coherent with the context and the defined programme. In this way, we achieve precise spaces, faithful to the intended project and clearly designed to be lived.

Phase 4 · Maintenance. Once finished, we remain close at hand.

The result is poetic spaces that address the challenges posed and bring value to our clients, generating a higher quality of life. After the project is completed, if the client wishes, we continue to participate in the maintenance and care of the space, as our mission is to design places with a life of their own.

THE TEAM

THE STUDIO AND ITS GARDEN: La Pépite

VERVEINE inhabits a space with history: a former flower shop of more than 40 years, now transformed into a landscape architecture workshop—a working space that breathes knowledge and charm, full of details.

From the workshop and the back office, one accesses La Pépite: an unexpected urban garden nestled between party walls, where a wide variety of plant species now grow abundantly and have been catalogued. Over time, a collection of diverse artificial objects has also accumulated, which we have inventoried as well.

La Petite de Verveine Landscape Architecture

La Pépite becomes a “VERVEINE Garden”: a landscape architecture space where we transform and respect the place, reflecting its history and essence, with the exuberant canopy of the Ailanthus altissima and the surroundings of the Sant Gervasi stream on Carrer de Cassoles (Barcelona) —the former street of solitary houses—as its backdrop.

We have begun to explore opportunities for transforming this space, through which we can assert our own manifesto and way of working.

Ultimately, we have made La Pépite a place to share our know-how, preserve a fragment of the city in its purest form, and contemplate and debate the poetics of space.
